2nd COHD Cross-Cultural Carnival Was Held with Success

 

On the afternoon of April 15th, the 2nd COHD Cross-Cultural Carnival (4C), which was organized by the faculties and students of COHD, was successfully held in the CIAD auditorium in the West campus. The COHD international students from different countries, together with Dr. Fabiano Escher, the Brazilian visiting scholar and researcher, and Dr. Zhao Xuejiao, the class advisor of the international students, participated in this event, while Zheng Yuyang, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of COHD, and the Ph.D. student Alhassan Baba hosted the event. The theme of this carnival was the same as the first one and the international student representatives from 6 countries, which are Rwanda, Lesotho, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal and the US, addressed impressive speeches and PPT demonstrations. They drew a great completion for the presentations focusing on traditional food and cuisines.

After the background and outline of the event was introduced by the hosts, Mugabo Cedric, an international student of Rwanda made the first oral presentation. With the verbal and pictorial help from PPT, Rwanda, known as “the Land of Thousand Hills”, was vividly presented to everyone by him. In the presentation, the distinctive traditional hairstyles, clothing and handicrafts as well as the cuisine were found to be rather impressive. The uncanny natural landscape and the beautiful villages with traditional architecture amazed everyone.

Shayan, the international student from Afghanistan with the traditional Afghan clothes on, demonstrated vividly the overview of the history and economy and the cultural custom to the audience. In the presentation, the introductions, such as distinctive architecture with rich history, the traditional clothing as well as the developing process, the cuisine special for wheaten food and nuts and the rich natural resource, left the audience a great impression.

Joalane Makonye, the Lesotho student with colorful traditional clothes and hand-waved straw-made hat, introduced the geographical economics and traditional clothing culture of Lesotho, a remote place in Southeastern African country with patience. She drew everyone’s attention by the demonstration of special traditional clothing culture and cuisine.

Shabir and Nasir from Pakistan, who also had the traditional clothes on, gave a rich and great speech together, thoroughly demonstrating Pakistan, a fast-growing country to the audience. In the presentation, the long history, the grandiose architecture and the great natural landscapes were found to be rather appealing. The distinctive food culture and traditional food developed from them is profound and outstanding.

Ain, the Nepal student having the country flag raising up in hand and the traditional hat on head, gave a speech, where the distinctiveness of the country was vividly illustrated to people. In his presentation, the richly endowed Nepal geography and natural resource due to the geography amazed people. Meanwhile, the colorful traditional clothing and various and healthily-combined traditional food refreshed the minds.

Andy, the US student gave the last speech of the event. By the liberal minds and logical outline, he introduced America, a world giant to the audience with flexible personal ideas and explanation, which made the diversified and acceptable culture of the country completely revealed. In his demonstration, the hilarious expressions and flexible speed busted laughter occasionally among the audience.

After the presentation section, the event was about to be finished. The international students took pictures with the teachers on the scene. The successful completion of the 2nd COHD Cross-Cultural Carnival finished the theme of “clothing and food”, and also established a good foundation of the further development for the 4C brand activities.
