The 3rd COHD Cross-Cultural Carnival & 2019 Graduation Gala for International Students Was Successfully Held


The 3rd COHD Cross-Cultural Carnival & 2019 Graduation Gala for international students was successfully held in the CIAD auditorium in the West campus on the evening of June 25. Themed with “music & dancing”, the activity was jointly presided over by Zheng Yuyang, the college foreign affairs secretary, and Alhassan Baba, a doctoral graduate of Grade 2015. The attendees included Professor Wu Huifang, COHD’s Deputy Dean, tutors for international students including Professor Wang Libin, Professor Liu Yonggong, Professor Luo Pan, Associate Professor Wang Haimin, Associate Professor Zhou Xuejun and Associate Professor Wang Yanlei, as well as Dr. Liu Chaoqun, the class advisor of international students and some student assistants of international students.  

The Gala started with a melodious musical composition Jasmine Flower performed by Pipa, a traditional Chinese instrument. Two undergraduate students in the Han Chinese costumes respectively from the School of Sociology and Anthropology and the School of Law narrated the story about noble and beautiful jasmine.

Noynith, a graduate student from Laos sang a song with the traditional characteristics of Laos. At the occasion of graduation, he highly appreciated his beautiful time during his studies in COHD and expressed his sincere wishes to all international students and teachers through this song. Lemi, a graduate student from Ethiopia, wore the traditional Ethiopian clothing, performed a dance. Accompanied by the dynamic Ethiopian-style music, he invited some teachers and students to dance together and unleash enthusiasm. Shayan, Nasir and Ain, international students at school of Grade 2018, sang a famous song of India for all postgraduate students who were about to graduate, expressing their best wishes to them. 

In the joyful atmosphere of the gala, Wu Huifang, the Deputy Dean of COHD, also sang a Chinese song named My Motherland and I, delivering her best wishes to all international students who were about to graduate. International students waved their arms along with elegant songs, and enjoyed the beautiful time before graduation.

Kenya, an international student at school of Grade 2018 sang a song Time of Farewell. He expressed that, in face of farewell, they felt very complicated as this moment unveiled their treasure to good friends and beautiful moment and also their ardent expectations to the future. Everybody sang the song together as moved by his deep, mellow and soulful voice, dispersing the sentimental feeling of farewell.

Next, the mixed show of dances from Malawi, South Sudan and Ethiopia made people enthusiastic again. The open and free Malawian dance, the passionate and dynamic Ethiopian dance and the appealing South Sudan dance attracted all teachers and students to join the dance at the scene.

At last, the 3rd COHD Cross-Cultural Carnival & 2019 Graduation Gala for International Students ended with the song the Horizon sang by Professor Liu Yonggong. He extended his most sincere wishes to all international students at the scene. It is really the unforgettable memory for each student to study in COHD. He hoped that all international students could remain true to their original aspiration and carry forward the humanistic feelings of COHD while forging ahead to their dreams.
