Raúl Delgado Wise


Member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences; Professor and Director of the Doctoral Program in Development Studies at Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas (UAZ), Mexico

 

Born in March 1950, he studied Engineering at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) and proceeded to the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) where he obtained his first degree in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in 1972 and a master’s degree in Operations Research in 1974. He subsequently obtained a master’s degree in Engineering and a PhD in Philosophy and Social Sciences in 1975 and 1977 respectively, from the University of Pennsylvania. He has been a guest lecturer in over 40 countries. He is Professor and Director of the Doctoral Program in Development Studies at the Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas (UAZ), President and Founder of the International Network on Migration and Development, Co-Director of the Critical Development Studies Network. He is also the Founder and Editor of the journal, Migración y Desarrollo (Migration and Development) and a member of the editorial boards for a number of academic journals. His research covers Migration and Development, Political Economy, and Development Studies among others. He is the author/editor of 30 books and more than 200 book chapters and refereed articles and a member of the International Editorial Board of the “Little Books on Big Ideas” series on Agrarian Change and Peasant Studies. His major publications include, inter alia, Oil in the Global Economy: Transformation of the International Oil Industry (1999); Mexico's Economic Dilemma: The Developmental Failure of Neoliberalism (co-authored, 2010); Agrarian Change, Migration and Development (co-authored, 2016); Critical Development Studies: An Introduction (co-authored, 2018) and a forthcoming book, Reader: Migration and Development.
