Call for Participation in Agriculture, Food, and the Environment, a Course Jointly Designed by China Agricultural University and Cornell University

 

Based on the cooperative training framework of the Agrifood 5 Alliance (A5), Agriculture, Food, and the Environment, a course in English jointly designed by China Agricultural University and Cornell University, will be officially launched in the fall semester of 2022. Focusing on agriculture, food and the environment, the course will enhance students’ overall understanding of agricultural and food systems as well as ecological and environmental issues from interdisciplinary, pluralistic, comprehensive, and comparative perspectives. The course includes 3 themes: 1) Issues and Innovations in the Global Agricultural and Food Systems; 2) Rural Development and Agrarian Change; 3) Approaches Towards Sustainable and Just Transitions. (See Attachment 1: Syllabus). Interested students are welcome to join!

1. Course Schedule: Every Wednesday evening from August 24 to November 30, 2022, Beijing Time

2. Application Requirements: The application is open to undergraduates of the 2019 batch and the 2020 batch, and the newly enrolled 2022 master students and all international students registered with China Agricultural University regardless of his/her seniority, specialization or nationality (max 30). They should have good academic performance and be physically and mentally healthy; be good at listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English; show interest in this course and be open-minded and adept in teamwork; be able to take classes as required.

3. Application Materials: (1) Application Form (See Attachment 2); (2) English Language Certificate; (3) CV (in English) and Motivation Letter; (4) Scanned copies of your passport or ID Card; (5) Student Card or Admission Notice (For newly admitted international postgraduate students who have not yet received the final admission letter, it is acceptable to provide email message screenshots instead which could reveal your condition of being admitted by CAU); (6) One or two personal photos.

4. How to Apply: Please package the application form and supporting materials as a .zip file and send it to the mailbox of our teaching assistant: afe2022@foxmail.com, naming the submitted file as: "Cornell-CAU-student ID number-name.zip".

5. The Deadline for Application: Before 17:00 on August 14, 2022, Beijing Time. (*The application is required for all students who would like to participate in this course, including postgraduate students/international students who would like to take this course for credit.)

6. The Notification to Selected Applicants: Selected applicants will be notified via email on August 18, 2022, Beijing Time

7. Other Instructions:

This course can be credited as a selective course (with 2 credits) for international students who fulfilled the participation requirements and completed the course assignments.

The teaching faculty of this course consists of six professors/associate/assistant professors from Cornell University and four professors/associate professors from China Agricultural University. Students from both universities will participate in online and offline activities under the guidance of the co-coordinators, and they will be notified in advance by the course team if there are any changes to how these activities are organized due to the requirement for pandemic prevention.
