主讲人简介：Professor Cheng Yuk-shing is currently the Interim Dean of School of Business, Hong Kong Baptist University. He is a Professor of Economics and the founding director of the Centre for Sustainable Development Studies. His research primarily focuses on insitutional and developmental issues of China, covering income inequality, rural institutions, fiscal decentralisation, regional disparity, state enterprises, trade, energy and environment. He has also coauthored a book entitled Hong Kong's Global Financial Centre and China's Development: Changing Roles and Future Prospects (with Yan-leung Cheung and Chi-keung Woo Routledge, 2017). He has published in reputable Chinese journals including Social Science in China, Economic Research Journal, Chinese Rural Economy, Issues in Agricultural Economy, etc.

讲座内容简介：How local institutions interact with multinational corporations (MNCs) has long been a subject of debate. The impact of Chinese investment on institutions in developing countries has caught special attention in the recent decade.Using firm-level data in developing countries covering the period of 2006-2016, we provide a systematic assessment of the impact of Chinese investment on local corruption. Our instrumental-variable estimation suggests that higher ratio of Chinese investment to local GDP would reduce the level of corruption as perceived by domestic firms. This main result passes a battery of commonly recognised robustness tests
