Based on the cooperative training framework of the Agrifood 5 Alliance (A5), Agriculture, Food and the Environment, a course in English jointly designed by China Agricultural University and Cornell University, will be officially launched in the fall semester of 2021. Focusing on agriculture, food and the environment, the course will enhance students’ overall understanding of agricultural and food systems as well as ecological and environmental issues from interdisciplinary, pluralistic, comprehensive, and comparative perspectives. It has several modules including the overview, multiple agricultural systems, agricultural value chains and food systems, rural development and agrarian change, sustainable transformation, and summaries and outlooks. (See Attachment 1: Syllabus). Interested students are welcome to join!
1. Course Schedule: Every Wednesday night from September 1 to December 1, 2021, Beijing Time
2. Application Requirements: The application is open to any student (not including undergraduates to be enrolled in 2021) registered with China Agricultural University regardless of his/her seniority, specialization or nationality. They should have good academic performance and be physically and mentally healthy; be good at listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English; show interest in this course and be open-minded and adept in teamwork; be able to take classes as required.
3. Application Materials: (1) Application Form (See Attachment 2); (2) English Language Certificate; (3) CV (in English) and Motivation Letter; (4) Scanned copies of your passport or ID Card, and Student Card or Admission Notice (for New Postgraduate Students); (5) One or two personal photos.
4. How to Apply: Please package the application form and supporting materials as a .zip file and send it to the mailbox of our teaching assistant: zhangsen19950907@163.com, naming the submitted file as: "CAU-Cornell-student ID number-name.zip".
5. The Deadline for Application: Before 17:00 on August 18, 2021. (*The deadline may be relaxed appropriately for the newly admitted international students who are supposed to enroll in the fall semester of 2021 but have not yet received an official letter of admission.)
6. The Notification to Selected Applicants: Selected applicants will be notified via email on August 22, 2021
The teaching faculty of this course consists of six professors/associate professors from Cornell University and three professors/associate professors from China Agricultural University (See Attachment 1 for the list). Students from both universities will participate in online and offline activities under the guidance of the co-coordinators, and they will be notified in advance by the course team if there are any changes to how these activities are organized due to the requirement for pandemic prevention.
